Getting home after a day on the water

This neat little device is now on sale at Canadian tire. Under license this is known as the Nautilus Intelligent Battery Guard for 12V Batteries, it’s made by the www.batterybrain.com folks. I plan to use two of these in a dual battery configuration but I can see the value in just having one on your main battery. Even if you’re careful and charge your battery each time you return to shore sometimes you can find yourself with out enough juice to crank to starter because you've been cranking the cd-MP-3 tunes all day.

Sale: $39.99

HOW BATTERY BRAIN™ WORKS

Battery Brain prevents a dead battery by using patented technology to continually monitor a battery’s charge strength and isolate it from any possible energy drainage, ensuring enough charge is preserved to start the engine.

The Battery Brain unit can be mounted in various configurations on the positive terminal of the vehicle battery. It monitors the voltage in the battery and if this drops below the prescribed level needed to start the vehicle (e.g. 12.1V), a brief timed sequence measures whether this is a temporary drop that recovers quickly.

If not, Battery Brain disconnects the battery from the vehicle’s electrical system to preserve the charge. The battery will then typically recover (e.g. to around 12.6V) but it will at very least retain enough charge to start the engine.”

Safety Recall

Dear Sea-Doo® Sport Boat Owner,

This Safety Recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Coast Guard, which will monitor its effectiveness, and Transport Canada, in Canada.

What is the reason for this notice?
In cooperation with Transport Canada and the U.S. Coast Guard, Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and BRP US Inc. (“BRP“) are conducting a voluntary safety recall of all Sea-Doo sport boats equipped with ROTAX naturally aspirated, 155 hp, 4-TEC engine, model year 2003 to 2007, as specified in the attached Safety Campaign Bulletin. Our records indicate that you are the owner of a potentially affected vehicle.

What is the potential problem?
Some pieces of the air box may detach. This may allow broken pieces to be drawn to the throttle body and in some cases, could prevent the throttle plate from returning completely to idle position, potentially leading to an unexpected failure to decelerate when the throttle lever is returned to the idle position. This situation could cause a collision with bystanders, a fixed object or another vehicle and potentially cause serious injuries or even death.

What should you do?
Immediately stop using your vehicle, call an authorized BRP dealer and make an appointment to have your vehicle repaired. The dealer will perform this work at no charge to you.

What to do if you feel this notice is an error?
This notice was mailed to you according to the most current information we have available. If you no longer own this vehicle or some information in this notice is incorrect, please contact BRP at your earliest convenience.
